We might not be able to have the house parties/street parties as planned, but we can still celebrate at home or in the garden! The first May Bank Holiday in 2020 had been moved from a Monday to a Friday so that we could celebrate this occasion starting on Friday 8th May, and all over that weekend. As we all know, times have changed however, what got our nation through the darkest of times of World War II was the strong British spirit and this is still there. We have seen multiple act of kindness and thoughtfulness in the last few weeks. Now is a time to remember, to celebrate and to reflect yes, we have to stay home to protect the NHS and save lives, but we can get out into our garden, we can hang the bunting and flags from windows, on hedges, we can cheer and celebrate – making sure we stay those two metres apart!

We’ve seen the videos online of communities keeping up their spirits while social distancing – singing, dancing, clapping!!

Let’s do something for VE Day 75, for the brave men and women who fought for the freedom that we are (or were!).
