Following our earlier communication below is an outline of the day that is being organised nationally:
* At 11am there is to be the 2 minute silence to remember those who fought for our freedom in WW2.
* During the afternoon everybody is encouraged to have a glorious tea party and around 3pm to raise a glass or cup to celebrate the end of the war. (An eggless sponge cake was the ‘dish of the day’, a challenge to all you bakers in Weston!!).
* At 3pm the victory speech by Winston Churchill is being transmitted.
* At 9pm her Majesty the Queen is addressing the nation and this will be followed by Vera Lynn singing ‘We’ll Meet Again’. (You can follow this is on BBC1)
* Nationally we are being asked to join in from our doorsteps, let us make this a real occasion to remember in Weston. Turn up the volumn on your TVs, tablets, laptops, smart phones etc., open your windows and let her wonderful voice join ours from our doorsteps.
For those who do not remember all the words see below!
“We’ll Meet Again”
We’ll meet again,
Don’t know where,
Don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through,
Just like you always do
‘Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say “Hello”
To the folks that I know?
Tell them I won’t be long
They’ll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song
We’ll meet again,
Don’t know where,
Don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day
We’ll meet again,
Don’t know where
Don’t know when.
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day.
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do,
‘Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say “Hello”
To the folks that I know?
Tell them I won’t be long.
They’ll be happy to know
That as you saw me go,
I was singin’ this song.
We’ll meet again,
Don’t know where,
Don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day
Please share on the Weston Village Facebook page photos of your celebrations and we will find a place for them on the Weston Village website to remember this special occasion by.
Stay safe.

Hi. The BBC programme to commemorate VE Day actually starts at 8pm, culminating in the Queen’s speech at 9pm. If people turn on at 9pm they’ll have missed the rest of the event! Might this info be added to your post?

If you see thold black and white news film of the crowd in front of Buckinham Palace, look carefully, you will see a young boy sitting on his father’s shoulders. That’s me. 🙂
